Best 15 Photos From Summer and Journal Entry #1

                                                     "Sunset Sky Over Mount Jefferson"
I loved the moon and the colors in the sky and just had to capture this beautiful scene. I like how the whole scene is encompassed in this panorama.
                                                                           "Placid"
I had tried a few shots before this one but liked this composition the best. I like the strong foreground, middle ground and background in this photograph.
                                                                "Pools on the Beach"
In Cannon Beach, Oregon when the tide get low there are these pools of water that show up on the sand. I think it provides a good foreground then having haystack rock provides a good subject.
                                                                        "Fiery Night"
This was also taken in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I took this a night and I love the glow of the fire and how the driftwood draws your attention to Haystack Rock.
                                                                              "Power"
This was taken in Great Falls in Maryland. I really like the log which is steady and not moving in contrast with the moving water.
                                                                       "DC at Night"
This was taken from the WWII memorial in DC. I like the ghosting of the water and my place of the Washington memorial in between two of the fountains. I also like the flags on the edge of the frame.
                                                        "Stars over Griffith Observatory"
This was taken from Griffith observatory in Los Angeles. I had to find a dark area to try and avoid any light coming in from the city. I love the star streaks in this photo.
                                                                     "Sunset in Malibu"
This was taken in Malibu in California. I climbed on top of these rocks and waited for about 30 minutes until the glow on the rocks was just right. I also used an ND filter to get the water smooth.
                                                                           "Playful"
I took this on a whale watching tour and I love how the dolphins are jumping in to the frame. I also like how they are frozen.
                                                                          "Strength"
I also took this photo on a whale watching trip. This is the fluke of a humpback whale going down for a deep dive. I was lucky to photograph such a phenomenal animal.
                                                              "The Life of the Ocean"
This is another photo of the same humpback whale, I like the birds surrounding the whale in this photo. I think it makes for an interesting composition.
                                                                    "Pier at Sunset"
This is the Santa Monica pier at sunset. This is also a long exposure and I like the movement of the ferris wheel.
"Resting Sea Lions"
This photograph was taken right off the shore in Dana Point, CA.  I like how the sea lions are not in the center of the photograph and are somewhat following the rule of thirds.
                                                                "Ocean Long Exposure"
This was taken in Laguna Beach. I like the movement of the water while still freezing some of the action.
                                                                           "A Secret Getaway"
This was taken in Rock Creek Park. I love the lone rock in the foreground and the bridge. The movement of the water just completes the photograph for me.

Journal Entry #1:

  1. Since taking photo 2 last year I have gotten much better at choosing the right settings on my camera and also at creating dynamic compositions. I think I have also improved on editing my images to get the look that I want.
  2. I love landscape and wildlife photography. I like how both require a lot of patience, and you have to be ready when the moment comes. And if you miss the moment you might not get another chance.
  3. A good photo need a strong composition, it has to grab your attention. An interesting subject can help to make to good photo. A lot of times a photo can be good if it makes you think.
  4. I am interest in learning more photoshop techniques and maybe more about film photography and printing in the darkroom.
